In our second project with the medical team of the Ear, Nose, and Throat department at Erasmus MC, we visualized the treatment pathway of a cholesteatoma. Ultimately, we created a series of four videos: the functioning of the ear; what is a cholesteatoma?; surgery for a cholesteatoma; and the post-operative journey. Our biggest technical challenge was accurately representing the scale of the relevant anatomy. To achieve this, we produced a zoom shot that takes the viewer from outside the ear down to the micrometer level inside the ear, allowing the tiny hair cells to be clearly depicted.
